Abstract :
Conservation biological control is based on modifications in or around the agrosystem as well as changes of cultural practices in order to favour the regulation of agricultural pests by native natural enemies. To be efficient, such methods require several conditions: (i) a detailed understanding of the agrosystem’s biodiversity, (ii) the optimization of the circulation of biological agents between the crop and the surroundings, (iii) the limitation of possible unintended effects. These three points are discussed in the frame of an ongoing program whose aim is to evaluate the potential of a mediterranean plant, Dittrichia viscosa L. (W. Greuther) (Asteraceae), for the regulation of two crops, greenhouse productions and olive orchard.
